Over $900K to SHYFTinc for new connected containerization solution for mining

(TORONTO) March 3, 2020 — SHYFTinc, a Sudbury-based mining technology developer and distributor, is pleased to receive more than $900,000 from the Ministry of Economic Development , Job Creation and Trade's Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network (AVIN) initiative, led by OCE, to support the development of a revolutionary mining supply chain and inventory management system that uses smart containerization.

The funding supports ADMMIT®, an autonomous mobile inventory management system built for dynamic environments such as mines. It tracks, delivers, and manages material movement in real-time, from purchase to consumption, and links to mine planning and inventory controls.

SHYFTinc president Tyler Samson said that industry is interested in systems and solutions that can transform the mining process. "ADMMIT® and its SmartCube™ connected containers will offer a mobile warehouse, helping mines track material such as tools, explosives, and parts," said Samson.

Testing and validation of such a transformative technology is made possible thanks to initiatives like AVIN and support from a global consortium of leaders in mining technology, underground operations, software and computing, and autonomous vehicle development.

It is also a first for AVIN to support a freight-management project in mining, and the first AVIN project in northern Ontario. Vic Fedeli, Ontario's Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade said: "Our government has a plan to create a more competitive landscape where all businesses and job creators can flourish. This new partnership with SHYFTinc is a great example of the role government can play to create new opportunities for investment and economic development in Northern Ontario."

Claudia Krywiak, CEO and President of OCE added that "OCE is pleased to partner with the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade on Ontario's AVIN initiative and help SHYFTinc bring its 'made in Ontario' technology to market. This project is another great example of the innovative collaborations that can be forged regionally to enable local companies to scale globally."

SHYFTinc founding president Trang Tran-Valade, P.Eng., has been leading the global consortium and ADMMIT® platform development. She is now president of FORTAI; a new company focused on optimizing the mining value chain through advanced automation.

"SHYFTinc's success with ADMMIT® would not be possible without our ecosystem partners. Creating advanced and transformational technology takes vision and teamwork. We appreciate the support from our funding, technology, and academic partners who have been instrumental in this shared success," said Tran-Valade.

The announcement was made in Toronto at the Prospectors and Developers Association Annual Convention (PDAC), within the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase.
